My name is Leah and I am the creator behind Leah & Stitch.
My love of tea, knitting/crocheting and all things yarn came from my Grandma. My Grandmother taught me how to knit and crochet almost ten years ago. After I graduated from University with a degree in Civil Engineering and was looking for my first career job, I would go over to her house everyday and receive knitting/crocheting lessons, while we would both drink copious amounts of tea.
As most makers I started off my maker journey crocheting items for family and friends as gifts. The decision to start Leah & Stitch didn't come until a few years later. After I had been laid off from my engineering job in 2016 it became the perfect opportunity start my crocheting business. I started off, doing orders by word of mouth, and easing my way into markets and craft fairs. My fibre journey has evolved to also include designing patterns and now my very own website and blog! You can find my designs on Etsy, Ravelry Love Crafts and now my website!
Designing patterns has been a perfect combination of my love of yarn and my love of math and design. Where other designers may dread pattern math, I actually thoroughly enjoy it! I know, strange right? Having an engineering background I fully love spreadsheets which comes in very handy when you are writing a pattern for multiple sizes. My happy place is being surrounded by a pile of yarn, calculator in my hand, a cup of tea in the other and a pattern design in front of me. I bet if your high school math teacher told you, you needed to focus in class because one day you would be a crochet or knitwear designer you would have paid more attention!
I live in St. Albert AB with my husband and our two dogs Hoban and Wicket. If I am not knitting or crocheting, I enjoy travelling, going for sushi, listening to true crime podcasts and rewatching Friends for the 100th time!
